Nicholas Martinez
Corporate Engagement Manager
Nicholas was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a BA in Anthropology. After undergrad, he joined the Peace Corps where he spent two years in Mozambique, Africa. He enjoyed teaching English to middle school kids and engaging with youth in the community. After the Peace Corps, he was selected for a Fulbright in Brazil as an English Teaching Assistant, but unfortunately due to COVID had to end his award early.
Nicholas was able to combine his love of writing and cultures to obtain his master’s in journalism from the University of Southern California. He then was able to work in the nonprofit and communications sectors working on projects that are mission-based and feel like he is working towards a better society for everyone.

Why I Joined the Congressional Award
I loved the commitment to community service and personal development. As someone who has participated in programs that encourage young people to get involved in their community, I enjoy seeing youth see the value in bettering their community and exploring the vast world we live in. Also, I enjoy the mission of the organization and how people from all walks of life are involved.
Program Area Highlight
I enjoy playing volleyball competitively or with friends. I also enjoy going to the beach, reading a good book, finding new restaurants with exciting cuisine, and traveling seeing new places. I am excited to explore D.C. and gain a better understanding of our nation’s capital.
