Christopher Leahy
Chris Leahy founded LongView Public Strategies in 2023. LongView is a boutique corporate affairs consulting firm that provides strategic counsel to innovative companies, organizations, and entrepreneurs creating or protecting new markets and products. LongView helps clients navigate government oversight and over-regulation, and develop comprehensive strategies for government relations, third-party advocacy, and corporate affairs to engage governments for positive outcomes.
LongView advises companies that have established government relations functions, as well as those that do not have that capability. Chris is a battle-tested advocate with extensive C-suite experience in the energy, transportation, life sciences, and technology sectors. He has led the government relations and corporate affairs functions of some of the best-known companies in the world, including Volkswagen, Bayer, Peabody Energy, and Intuit.
Chris’ professional experience as a Policy Coordinator and Counsel on the House Energy and Commerce Committee coupled with his private sector career has given him a deep understanding of the “process” of making and implementing policy, legislative-regulatory-executive branch dynamics, and how to be a valued client advocate. In his international work, Chris has been involved in high-level international business diplomacy since he began his career, including on some of the largest transatlantic business deals in history.
Prior to LongView, Chris served as Chief Corporate Affairs Officer for Intuit, creators of financial tools like TurboTax, QuickBooks, Credit Karma, Mailchimp, and Mint. Chris and his team of 35 professionals were responsible for Intuit’s engagement with the US and foreign governments, regulatory authorities, and organizations that touched the company, its products, and key stakeholders.
Chris also served as Vice President and Head of Government Relations and Policy for Bayer, the global life sciences company with core competencies in healthcare and agriculture, and before Bayer, for Peabody Energy, a Fortune 500 global energy company.
Prior to Peabody, Chris served as Majority Counsel and Policy Coordinator for the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the US House of Representatives. Before his work on Capitol Hill, Chris was Government Relations Counsel for Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. “360 strategic advocacy is what drives market making and successful policy outcomes for innovators. Chris holds a Juris Doctorate from the American University in Washington, DC, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the District of Columbia and Virginia State Bars.
Chris serves on several charitable and professional boards, including the boards of The US Chamber of Commerce, The Meridian Center, The Bryce Harlow Foundation, The Congressional Award, and as Vice Chairman of The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Board, Washington DC Metro Chapter.
Chris has been honored annually since 2016 as a Top Corporate Lobbyist by THE HILL newspaper. Originally from Washington, D.C., Chris grew up in Northern Virginia, where he resides with his wife Kristin and their golden retriever Sadie. The Leahys have two children in college.
