Vice President, External Affairs

Shawn Whitman is FMC Corporation’s Vice President of External Affairs, and he leads the global external affairs function. External Affairs advises FMC business and corporate leadership regarding multilateral trends, public policy, regulatory, political matters, and stakeholder engagement opportunities around the world. Shawn and the external affairs team work closely with multilateral policy makers, industry associations, government officials, private sector organizations, NGO’s and external groups to advance FMC’s corporate objectives. 

Shawn has served in a variety of leadership capacities during his 25-year career, including serving as a chief of staff for two United States Senators. As chief of staff, he was the principal advisor to the Senators managing all aspects of their political and policy operations. 

Prior to joining FMC in 2013, Whitman was a partner for a private consulting firm as a lead strategist for the consulting firm representing Fortune 500 companies, national trade associations, and non-profit organizations.

Mr. Whitman is Vice Chairman of the Congressional Awards Foundation and serves on boards for the Business-Government Relations Council, the Public Affairs Council and is a Congressional Fellow for the John C. Stennis Center for Public Service program.
