Participants and Congressional Award recipients are privileged to many opportunities provided by our national partners, schools, and universities. Below you will find various opportunities that are readily available to medallists and participants.

PLEASE NOTE: The Congressional Award does NOT make any judgment or recommendations in regards to the programs operated by other organizations. Each program is administered by the organization noted.

Congressional Award Fall Internship

People to People InternationalThe Congressional Award is accepting internship applications for the Fall 2010 Semester.

A Congressional Award Intern assists in the promoting, publicizing, and overseeing of program operations. This includes the day-to-day operations of the program and medal ceremonies. The Program Manager's are the Foundation's liaisons with Congressional Offices, Partnering Organizations, Schools, Advisors, Individual Participants, Education Officials, and State and Local Media. The Congressional Award Intern will provide support in these initiatives and tasks.

The Congressional Award Intern reports directly to the Program Manager, Eliot Williamson. He/she assists in efficiently responding to participants and increasing program participation. Below is an overview of the tasks associated with the Program Intern position.

Interns are also asked to lead a project within the office for the Program. The Individual Assignments for summer 2010 interns will include the following:

  • Planning and assisting with multiple fundraisers and national events
  • Planning and assisting with preparation for the 2011 Gold Medal Ceremony
  • Designing a new PSA for the program
  • Working on the Alumni Association
  • Creating a fundraising kit for participants to use for trips to the 2011 Gold Medal Ceremony
  • Organize meetings for local outreach with Congressional Offices, youth organizations, schools, etc.
  • Development (Compiling mailing list, planning and staffing events, etc.)
  • Assisting with planning and implementation of our annual Chiefs of Staff Charity Poker and Golf Tournament

United States Senate Youth Program

United States Senate Youth ProgramThe United States Senate Youth Program, established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, is a unique educational experience for outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service. The 49th annual program will be held in Washington, D.C., from March 5 - 12, 2011. Two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity will spend a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by Senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of other federal agencies, as well as participate in a meeting with a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. All transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundations. In addition, each delegate will also be awarded a $5,000 College Scholarship for undergraduate studies, with encouragement to pursue coursework in history and political science.
