Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is the largest service event in the world, and is dedicated to the contributions that youth and children make 365 days a year. GYSD is celebrated in more than 135 countries, with young people working together to address the world’s most critical issues and change their communities. Since its founding in 1988, Global Youth Service Day has helped millions of people and made a difference all over the world.

To participate in Global Youth Service Day, visit the website www.gysd.org and select a project! There are pre-planned projects and service activities to choose from, or you can create your own. The Youth Service America website also has an ongoing list of service ideas and events extending beyond Global Youth Service Day.

The Jefferson Awards – Lead360 Challenge – Applications due January 2017

The Jefferson Awards for Public Service is one of America’s largest multipliers of community service. Considered the “Nobel Prize for public service,” the Jefferson Awards strives to build a “Culture of Service”, where every citizen can make a difference not just in their community, but in the world as well. Since being founded in 1972, the Jefferson Awards has recognized over 50,000 citizens who have completed extraordinary acts of community service in their communities and workplaces.

The Jefferson Awards is hosting The Lead360 Challenge, a contest where anyone under the age of 25 can submit their community service project in order to win prizes and recognition. Ideas for service projects can be submitted all year long, and once the top three ideas are selected, the projects are implemented and ready for volunteers. Congressional Award participants can upload their service projects through the Jefferson Awards website here. Make sure to note the Congressional Award as a referring organization on the submission form.
