GoPro Challenge

The Congressional Award and GoPro have partnered to give our participants the unique opportunity to document their Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, or Expedition/Exploration activities.

We are hosting a contest to give away GoPro HERO+ cameras and accessories to current participants pursuing The Congressional Award. This contest is intended to challenge young people to travel to new destinations, immerse themselves in unfamiliar environments, and capture an untold story through their Congressional Award journey.

Following the review of hundreds of proposals, 100 finalists were selected to receive GoPro cameras to capture their activity. 45 Finalists were chosen in the first installment of the contest and documented their Expedition or Exploration. 55 Finalists were chosen in the second installment and documented activity across any of the four program areas.

A winner from each installment was selected to receive round-trip airfare for two and a one-night stay in Washington, D.C. to attend one of The Congressional Award’s marquee events, where the winning videos will be presented.

We are excited to announce the Grand Prize Winners.

“Exploring Utah”

Brady rode his bike across Utah, taking in views at the rope swings in Mona, graffiti castle in Goshen, hot springs and Lava Tubes in Meadow, Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park, Yankee Doodle Canyon in St. George, and the Emerald Pools in Zion National Park. Attaching a GoPro to his bike, Brady was able to record time lapse shots, beautiful landscapes, and high adventure activities.

“This Expedition means pushing my comfort zone and trying new things. I think it also invites the risk of failure and uncertainty. That is where the true adventure is.”

“Tech Work at Senior Living Center”

Sixteen-year-old Nikhil Aggarwal created a tech help class at a local senior living center for his Voluntary Public Service goal. Motivated by conversations with his grandfather, Nikhil developed a detailed lesson plan that covered internet, email, Microsoft programs, and social media.

“My grandfather often calls me whenever he has questions about technology. I started this project because there are other seniors in my community facing the same dilemma, and I feel obliged to help them.”
